Art Twenty One – “Ethnomodern”

“Ethnomodern” a solo exhibition by Swiss-Guinean artist Namsa Leuba,. As the first large-scale solo exhibition of Leuba’s work, this exhibition brings together the artist’s diverse photographic practice that spans documentary, fashion and performance.  The exhibition will include the first full presentation of Namsa Leuba’s newest series, NGL, produced in 2015 during the artist’s residency with Art Twenty One in Lagos. NGL, an acronym for “Next Generation Lagos”, explores the innovation and creativity of Nigeria’s youth culture. Leuba was inspired by the energy of the city of Lagos – its chaos, vibrancy, and determination – translating this spirit into a unique visual metaphor. Leuba collaborated with local fashion designers and models in Lagos, often times sourced from the street, to create a potpourri collection of clothes, props and accessories. Exhibition Closes: January 10, 2017

Time: Tuesday -Friday: 10:00AM – 6:00PM  Saturday: 11:00am – 7:00pm

Open Secrets by Sam Ebohon (Exhibition Opening)

These works though seem to show the subject matter are layered within. The artist seems to be playing a high-level hide and seek with his known style. The works tease the visual senses, a foreplay of some sort before the subject matter appear. This is not far from a traditional masquerade dance or a mask ball dance where the duality of known and unknown entangle to heighten mysticism and enjoyment. Sam Ebohon’s stroke are almost feathery yet visceral and strong enough to carry his message in these new body of works.
